He reckons he will be able to pay off his mortgage within two years from playing online

Phil Shaw aka Jackal69 has joined Poker Verdict as a player/blogger and here's why...

Online star Phil Shaw aka Jackal69 is the newest member of Poker Verdict's Grand Jury.

As you can read elsewhere on the site Jackal69 made a stunning debut to his Poker Verdict career. We bought him into the big Sunday HORSE tournament on PokerStars ($200 $15) and he finished 2nd out of 228 runners, good for $7,296. He also won a $100 $9 event, again on 'Stars', taking down over $40,000.

Phil is typical of the new generation of poker player whose success has mainly been online rather than offline. He's played in a few offline tournaments (notably the British Poker Open 2006 in which he came 3rd, winning £14,000) but it is online that he has really made an impression.

Since the beginning of 2005 when he started to play professionally he has made over $300,000 from playing online, and reckons he will be able to pay off his mortgage within two years.

He has won outright or chopped almost all the $200 buy-in events on PokerStars (not just in holdem but pot limit Omaha, Omaha 8 and Stud 8) including the Sunday Million in July 2006, which he split four ways for $75,000.

He has a good record as a poker journalist too, being the former editor Poker Europa and poker strategy editor of InsideEdge and Poker Player magazine.

Asked what his 'bread 'n' butter games are, he says: "At the moment I'm mainly playing cash games of $5/$10 up to $25/$50 no limit holdem and $30/$60 up to $100/$200 limit holdem, HORSE, Stud8 and Omaha8.

"I also play a lot of $500 and $1,000 Sit 'n' Gos as well as $200 or $100 rebuy multi-table tournaments (MTTs)."
