THE__D__RY: Player Update: November 2008

This time last year, Danny ‘THE__D__RY’ Ryan was known as arguably the best sit and go player on the planet – after putting in a higher volume of MTT’s in 2008, now he surely is one of the top online tournament players in any format.

The American-turned-Spaniard celebrated his first major title in November with victory in the PokerStars Sunday Million for a cool $189,997 after coming through a monster field of 7,755 and prove that he is no one trick pony when it comes to tournament poker. In fact, a result like this has been on the cards all year for THE__D__RY after some highly impressive scores across the board.

In January he took down the Stars $100 Re-Buys for $37,400 before finishing runner-up in FTOPS Event #12 the following month for the biggest cash of his online career to date of $169,924. Three days later he won the famous $5,000 Winner Takes All 20-man event on Stars for a well-earned $100,000 in a tournament that traditionally attracts the best tournament & cash players in the world. Ryan has also final tabled the Super Tuesday twice (4th, $32,480 & 5th, $20,880) as well as the Full Tilt $1k Monday (5th, $27,878) this year.

After 5 cashes in the 2008 WCOOP it comes as no surprise that Ryan finally took down a Sunday Major (with Kevin ‘Stamdogg’ Stammin also at the final table) as he ran over the final 9 with relative ease to kick off the festive period in spectacular style. He is also increasingly taking to the live scene, with offline prizes of over $500,000 to date and 2 deep EPT finishes in 2008. In January Poker Verdict saw him finish 10th in the EPT Dortmund for $76,609 before final tabling the Scandinavian Open a month later, finishing 5th for his biggest score to date of $307,285 (check out his elimination hand below, where he was unlucky to run his AQ into Rasmus Nielsen’s AK).

Clearly Ryan is one of the top tournament brains of online poker and with live success starting to come his way as well, he is surely one of the most profitable players in PokerStars Events (both online & offline) in the world.
