If you hear loud wails of ‘Begs, Begs, Begs’ during the 2009 Main Event coverage, you know the people concerned are cheering on their man Steven Begleiter.
The New Yorker has had arguably the most vociferous support of any player this series and it’s not hard to see why.
Winning his $10,000 ME seat at a regular home league, the other members will all chop 20% of whatever prize money Begleiter wins – so a $240,000 pay-day is already assured!
Begleiter is a self-confessed amateur but has been playing for most of his life and is serious on improving his game.
“’I’m dancing between raindrops in the middle of a minefield and somehow I’m still standing,” he said.
“I’ve already won. It’s insane I made the final table. I’m not quite sure how I did it. My objective is to play well – so far I’ve played well.”
Nevertheless, he should be used to dealing with large sums of money changing hands.
By day he is a Senior Principal at investment firm Flexpoint Ford in NYC – before that he was a Senior Managing director at Bear Stearns & Co, another world-wide investment firm.
‘Begs’ will resume 3rd in chips on 29,885,000 and his supporters are sure to make the final table one of the loudest and most entertaining in recent memory.
