Where do you start with this guy? There’s not much the MTT machine hasn’t accomplished in his short time at the virtual felt but 2009 has surely surpassed even his own great hot streaks of yester-year.
Top of the OPR PokerStars rankings, Pocket Fives monthly leader board winner for March and top of Card Player’s ‘Online Player of the Year’ standings, it’s clear that this could be Deeb’s best ever year – he has prizes of over $680,000 on Stars alone and it’s only April!
To list his major scores just in this year alone would take up a severe amount of time but according to my calculations he has taken down no fewer than NINE major MTTs for $20,000 or more just in the last four months.
In January he got his year off to a flying start by taking down the Ultimate Bet Deep Stack $100k for $25,000 before landing the PokerStars Super Tuesday for a cool $81,813 just 4 days later. Shortly afterwards he was taking down a $100 Re-Buys on Full Tilt for $29,075 before a 3rd in the Stars Sunday 500 for a further $50,000 (both in February). March bordered on ridiculous – his record on Stars included a 1st and 2nd in the $100 Re-Buys (over $125,000 combined), victory in the Nightly Hundred Grand for $21,740 and also took down a $100 NLH freeze-out for $28,206!
When he then took down the UB $150k GTD for $39,750 just before the start of the SCOOP, it was fairly obvious it would take some sort of major disaster to stop Deeb from taking a hefty score away from one of the major events. And it happened in the $5,200 Limit Hold ‘Em tournament, where he finished 2nd for $90,338 – remarkably, that was only the 3rd biggest cash on the site in his career and took his prizes on Stars alone to over the $2.3million mark – a stunning testament to his high volume (and his ROI is equally as impressive).
Clearly Deeb has achieved everything in the MTT game yet still puts in more hours than most of his counterparts combined – phenomenal stuff and it will be interesting to see if he can replicate some of this form in the live arena during the WSOP.
