"I have confidence. When I enter a tournament I know I can win it and believe I will win it," says Scotty Nguyen.
Thuan 'Scotty' Nguyen is one of the most active players in professional poker today and since 2000 has finished in the money in well over 100 events. He also has four World Series of Poker bracelets including winning the main event in 1998.
"When I look down, I always see aces, baby!" is a typical comment you will hear from him at a table.
Also nicknamed 'The Prince', Nguyen’s playing style is one of fearless aggression and he usually keeps up a running commentary that often throws his opponents off balance. In particular he is known for appending the word “baby” or even “yeah baby” onto the end of every sentence. He also coined the phrase “That’s poker, baby” when referring to a particularly bad beat.
Aggressive, flashy, and outlandish are just some of the ways to describe Nguyen and he likes to perpetuate the legend that he was born with a deck of cards in his hands. Always with a grin on his face, Scotty is one of the true characters of poker. You will hear his dreadful bling clanking against his chest seconds before he comes into view.
On the final hand of the 1998 World Series of Poker main event, Nguyen made the memorable quote to his last opponent Kevin McBride: “You call, gonna be all over, baby.” Mcbride called and it was all over. You can see more on this hand in our Classic Verdicts section.
Most recently Scotty finished 4th at the 2005 The Sixth Annual Jack Binion World Poker Open, taking home over $300,000.
This guy is really active at the table and you would be hard pushed to find a players on the circuit today who plays as aggressively as Scotty Nguyen does.
