JC Tran – OnTheRize

It’s good to be ‘OnTheRize’ right now.

Though this Full Tilt account owner has not made his identity public, the online forums are strongly linking it to the legendary JC Tran – and you certainly wouldn’t put the win rates achieved on this account beyond the Vietnamese born pro.

‘OnTheRize’ is one of the biggest cash game winners of 2009 on the site, making a staggering $1.4million just in the month of January! Only Gus Hansen & Patrik Antonius have made more to date, despite logging just 6,156 hands – that is a win rate of $234 per hand! Almost all of this has come from both the big $500/$1000 PLO games and the popular $500/$1000 ‘Mixed HA’ tables of PLH & PLO.

Some sites are going as far as naming the account as ‘JC ‘OnTheRize’ Tran’, while several forum posters have made fairly convincing arguments linking him to the high stakes game. One Two Plus Two poster commented that:

“The account has been around since 2006. There’s a post I’ve linked to several times with David Williams, Jeff Madsen, and Mike Matusow talking in the chat box about 10k they owe JC. Williams calls JC to find out his screen name and tells Madsen to send it to “OnTheRize”. He then takes it back and says to send it to NO IT ALL. NO IT ALL is Amnon Filippi (there’s video of him playing on the account), and I think its well established JC stakes him.

Also, if you send a transfer to OnTheRize, his city starts with S. JC Tran lives in Sacramento, CA.”

Tran is a poker legend, having over $7.4million in live cashes, as well as a WSOP & WCOOP Bracelets to his name. He was in Melbourne for the Aussie Millions last month, when he finished 3rd in the $100,000 Challenge for a cool $201,945. In November he also took down the PartyPoker Premier League final in London for a further $300,000, when the likes of Tom Dwan & Peter Eastgate were at the final table. In a chat-box conversation with Dwan in July ’08, ‘OnTheRize’ said PLO & the high stakes action was ‘all a learning experience for me’ (this was after refusing to play Dwan Heads-Up). Despite this, he has been able to book substantial PLO wins, not least from Di ‘urindanger’ Dang in a couple of sick pots below:

Whether or not it is actually Tran playing on the account, ‘OnTheRize’ can clearly play. We are looking forward to seeing more of him in the biggest Full Tilt games for the rest of his career.
