The Pocket Fiver is one of the UK’s finest MTT players….

Online pro ‘gregior’ is undoubtedly one of the best MTT players in the UK.

Real name Greg Howard, the Pocket Fiver was as high as #4 in the sortable British rankings after a brilliant 2008 which saw him take his online prizes well over the $1million mark and several major tournament victories to boot.

The key to that success may have come back in August 2007, when he took down the Full Tilt $1k Monday for a cool $79,000 and since then he has gone from strength to strength. In March ’08 gregior again came to the attention of the community with victories in the PokerStars $100 Re-Buys ($30,003) & FT $65k GTD ($16,250) within the space of 48 hours! After another victory in the $100 Re-Buys ($34,843) & a Sunday Mulligan final table (4th, $17,507) Howard then went on to record his biggest career cash to date in July – an outright victory in the Stars $1,000 buy-in Super Tuesday, good for $85,800.

Since then you could pretty much find gregior in every major online MTT, and continuing to go deep in a fair few – another Super Tuesday final table (3rd for $44,000 when AJKHoosier came 2nd), a 2nd in the Nightly Hundred Grand ($18,508) and Ultimate Bet $200k GTD ($27,000), as well as outright victories in the Stars $100 Re-Buys again ($15,050) & FT $50k GTD ($13,575) all followed by the end of the year. Howard is into the top 100 in the worldwide P5 Rankings and if he keeps up these kind of performances he should be continuing his march up the leader board.

What about live poker? Not too much to shout about there to date, with just 2 cashes of note last year: both in the GUKPT, at Blackpool (28th, $2,668) & the Grand Final (11th, $10,352 – both in November). However, he is chummy with the other big online UK names such as Chris Moorman & Clarkatroid. In fact, gregior is mentioned in Paul Foltyn’s trip report from his triumphant GUKPT Grand Final victory and we wouldn’t be surprised to see his name pop up on a fair few more live cash lists this year.
