Pascal Perrault is one of the most competitive tournament players around and a stalwart of the European poker scene

Pascal Perrault, a Parisian chemist has concocted a winning formula when it comes to playing successful poker.

Perrault is, alongside ElkY (aka Bertrand Grospellier), arguably the finest French poker player of the online era. His lifelong passion for the game (he first played in family tournaments aged 14) has helped him to become one of the foremost European players of his generation.

Perrault is probably better known for tournament play than online success although he is said to play on the net as ppthebandit. He made the money at the WSOP in 1998 and developed a reputation as one of the best players around while internet poker was in its infancy. He was the number one-ranked player in Europe in 2001 and voted Poker Personality of the Year by his European peers the same year.

Perrault says that, while others often cite unpredictability as his best quality, he tends to think otherwise.

“I think that my biggest strength is knowing when to be patient and when to be aggressive,” he says. “My best memories are winning the EPT event in Vienna but I’m also very proud of winning the personality of the year award in 2001.”

Perrault remains a hugely competitive tournament player. His biggest victory came at the EPT Vienna event in March 2005, when he collected more than $200,000. He has amassed more than $1.3 million in live tournament winnings in total.
