Gavin Smith takes down FTOPS Event #7 for over $123,000 in a rare online success for the Canadian….

FTOPS XII hasn’t been the greatest of successes for Full Tilt but at least one of their pros, Gavin Smith, had some rare online success to celebrate in Event #7.

Three of the first 7 events missed their guarantees (including Event #1, a $200 NLH Event, by over $100,000!) and the Poker King does a good job of critiquing the differences between the FTOPS and PokerStars WCOOP series in this article. But Smith was probably indifferent to the plight of his sponsors as he proceeded to take down Event #7 ($100 Re-Buys) for by far the biggest score of his online career in the early hours of May 10th.

Smith took home $123,600 after fighting through 1,806 other runners in an event that missed its $600,000 guarantee – but it provided a much needed online boost for the Canadian nonetheless. His biggest MTT cash on the site before this jackpot was just $7,217 and his sit and go ‘prowess’ is legendary – as I write he has dropped over $170,000 in more than 2,600 games according to SharkScope. But a Two Plus Two poster uploaded an updated graph with Smith’s overall tournament P&L that is hard not to chuckle at!
