A tournament grinder from NYC, Eric Buchman is a very real danger to the rest of the November Nine.
Sitting with an ominous 34.8million stack – putting him comfortably second – Buchman is an experienced pro who will not be run over easily. After all, this is his 10th World Series cash since he first hit the money in 2004 and he had already accumulated almost $1million in live tournament prizes – all this, of course, before the guaranteed $1,263,602 which he is assured now.
The prospect of playing with Phil Ivey on a final table shouldn’t bother him either – he finished 6th in Event #25 ($2,500 Omaha/7-Stud Hi/Lo) which Ivey went on to win. This will actually be Buchman’s 3rd WSOP final table – he came agonisingly close to a bracelet in 2006 when finishing runner-up in the $1,500 Limit Hold ‘Em Event (for $174,938). His biggest ever cash to date came back in 2004 when he took down the New England Poker Classic for $275,400 – his only major tournament win to date.
The 29 year-old is clearly well versed in all forms of the game, having cashed in NLH, LH, o8 and Stud 8 before, but not much else is known about Buchman away from the tables.
“I’m happy right now but I got lucky a few times in the last few days,” he said in his post-tourney interview. “I’m pretty tired right now – I deserve a vacation!” When he comes back in November with re-charged batteries, expect Buchman to be a genuine competitor for the crown.
The bookies agree, making him second favourite and only just bigger than chip leader Darvin Moon, who has over 20 million more than him!
