Player Update: Nenad Medic

By Simon Hopper

3rd December 2008

He now has over $4million in offline prizes to his name before turning 27

The Canadian's WSOP bracelet caught the headlines but Nenad Medic has been one of the world's top live tournament players for a long time....

When we first profiled Nenad Medic, he was a well respected online cash pro and had a 2nd place in the Sunday Million to his name under the alias ‘serb2127’. Now, the Canadian has exploded onto the live tournament scene and after winning his first WSOP bracelet in 2008 now has over $4million in offline prizes to his name before turning 27.

When he took down the $10,000 PLH Event for almost $800,000 in May, Mike Sexton commented that Medic was one of the toughest Hold ‘Em players he had ever seen. A comment like that from the ambassador of poker tells you all you need to know about how well respected the Full Tilt pro is in the highest echelons of poker now.

Factfile:

- Full Tilt sponsored pro

- Won WSOP bracelet in $10,000 PLH

- WPT Foxwoods winner

- Over $4million in live tournament cashes

In truth, Medic had been on the radar of circuit regular since 2006, when in a stunning 12 months he took 3rd in the Aussie Millions Main Event for $275,718 before taking down the WPT Foxwoods Event for $1,717,194 (there is video footage of the final table somewhere on the net). He clearly has a liking for the Foxwoods because in November ’07 he came back as a Full Tilt pro and placed 3rd in the same event! This time he took home $486,367 and his skill in negotiating his short stack to the final three earned him even more respect from the best in the game, including the likes of Tom Dwan and Freddy Deeb who were also at the final table. Of course, this was all before the life-changing bracelet victory, when he came through what Kathy Liebert described as the toughest final table she had ever played in to take down the coveted gold bling. Present along with Medic, Liebert & Sexton were the likes of Phil Laak, Mike Sowers, Patrik Antonius, Amit ‘amak316’ Makhija & Andy Bloch! The crucial hand came in an enormous 3-way pot which Medic scooped to the delight of his railing fans, which you can see below:

He seems to be absolutely unstoppable this year because in November he final tabled yet another WPT Event, this time the Festa al Lago where he came in 4th for a further $373,010 (which was eventually won by Bertrand Grospellier). It seems a long time ago that ‘serb2127’ was placing runner-up to PV’s David ‘thekid08’ Gross in the Sunday Million and after his success in the live scene over the last 3 years, its hard to see how Medic won’t be one of the stalwarts of tournament poker for years to come. With two legs of the ‘triple crown’ already out of the way, what price on him making it the holy trinity in 2009?
