"He has an uncanny knack of getting to people to loosen up and gamble"
Neil "Bad Beat" Channing is one of the best-known faces and most well-liked characters on the UK poker scene. He's part of Poker Verdict's Grand Jury and a regular blogger on the site.
A consistent high stakes cash game winner, only a series of odds-defying hands have prevented him from major tournament success - until he took down the 2008 Irish Open for over €800,000. He has amassed over $1.6 million in tournament prize money, including seven World Series of Poker cashes. He was one of the only British players to wade through the massive fields to cash in the WSOP main event both in 2004 and in 2005.
Neil is sponsored to play tournaments by Poker Verdict. Although he prefers live games (especially at Edgware Road's Victoria Casino where he practically lives), Neil can often be found playing the big Sunday tournaments on PokerStars (as "Badbeat1").
Neil has a great line in banter and has an uncanny knack of getting to people to loosen up and gamble. He came 2nd in a London GUKPT Side Event for almost £16,000 before popping over to Dublin and demolishing a high-class final table in under 3 hours.
