In beating 719 of the world's top limit holdem players, Mike Sowers showed he really could mix it with the best.

There are very few youngsters making as much money as Mike Sowers is playing online poker...

Mike Sowers aka “Sowerss” has had an astonishingly good year and proved to the online poker community that he is one of the best young players around.

Sowers, from Charlotte in North Carolina, has racked up a set of online results that put 99% of players to shame and it is worth bearing this in mind next time you see him on PokerStars, Full Tilt or UltimateBet, the three sites that he has had most success on.

So far this year, Sowerrs has taken down tournament winnings of over $470,000 on PokerStars alone, with a profit figure of $280,000 (which equates to an ROI of 150%). Added to that Sowerrs has won over $185,000 on Full Tilt, $90k of it profit.

This is serious money for someone who is just 21 years of age and suggests Mike Sowers has a big future in live events when he starts playing on the WPT and in the WSOP.

Among Sowerrs' major successes in the last few months you will find big results in all the usual tournaments: he won the $1,050 buy-in Super Tuesday on PokerStars for $80k on 30 October; come 3rd in the same tournament for $33k the week before; he’s taken down the $100 rebuy tournament on the same site, often described as the toughest tourney on the net, for $41k in July; and he won the $1k Monday tournament on Full Tilt the same month for another $54k.

On top of these stunning results this year Sowerrs has also won the $200k Guaranteed on UltimateBet, the site’s big Sunday night tournament, for $45k and even took down Absolute Poker’s biggest tournament, the $150k Guaranteed, for a further $37,500 back in April.

But it was in PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker (WCOP) series that Sowerrs really hit the big time when he took down WCOOP Event 22, a $1,050 buy-in Limit Holdem event, for a staggering $145k. In beating 719 of the world’s top limit holdem players, Mike Sowers showed he really could mix it with the best.

It wasn’t even the money that Sowerrs was primarily interested as you can see from the following exchange that appeared in the chatbox when he was heads-up with top Austrian pro Markus Golser aka “jumper17”:

Sowerss: i want the full bracelet
Sowerss: i'd almost give u 5k for it
jumper17: me too

In finally beating Golser after a heads-up battle of over an hour Sowerrs got what he wanted: the glory and prestige of winning a bracelet event. It will surely be the first of many.
