Someone who has gone from being a complete unknown to a top 10 online poker player this year is Barros aka “vietcong01”.
The Spaniard has been tearing up the online felt in 2007 and made a major breakthrough when he took down the net’s richest tournament, the PokerStars Sunday Million, in July for a pay-day of almost $160,000.
vietcong01 is a grinder and tends to play five or six tournament on PokerStars a day, ranging from the daily $50 and $100 rebuys up to the $1,050 buy-in Super Tuesday tournaments.
Aside from his big win in July, vietcong01 has had several other major cashes including $61k for coming first in the Super Tuesday in November and $83k for winning the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up (just one week after his Sunday Million victory) in July.
All these cashes have made vietcong01 one of the year’s most profitable players on PokerStars and his $715,000 of tournament winnings on the site translate to profits of $577,000. This equates to an ROI (return on investment) of over 400%, easily one of the highest in the game.
vietcong01 plays extremely aggressively and some would say recklessly. He is never afraid to put his tournament life on the line and attracted several negative comments on internet forums about the quality of his game when he shoved with K-10 in the Super Tuesday. He got called by a player with A-K but went on to win the enormous pot when a 10 spiked on the turn.
It is moves like this that have helped vietcong01 take down the biggest available online tournaments this year. Poker Verdict is expecting a big year for
vietcong01in 2008 and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if he is next year’s answer to Annette_15 or Imper1um.
