Player Update: Moorman1
By Simon Hopper
7th November 2008
Totalling up his prizes on Stars, FT & Party and you get to comfortably over $2million
Chris Moorman has had one of the best years in online tournament history....
It’s hard to know where to begin with Chris Moorman.
The friend of Poker Verdict has had one of the most stunning years ever seen online, with no fewer than FOUR Pocket Fives triple crowns and a spell at #1 on the Rankings in 2008 alone. To list all of his major scores from this year would literally take all day so we thought we would give a re-cap of just how consistent Moorman1 has been across the board in some of the toughest MTT’s anywhere over the last 10 months.
On PokerStars he is closing in on $1million in prizes, the most significant score being the $5,000 Winner Takes-All in March, which he won for a cool $100,000. From August to November alone he has come 3rd in the $500k GTD ($50,000), 2nd in the Nightly Hundred Grand ($19,683), 1st, 5th & 6th in the $100 Re-Buys (over $40,000 combined), 7th in the WCOOP $200 PLO ($17,745), victory in the Nightly Seventy Grand ($12,411), two wins in the $50 Re-Buys (over $20,000 combined) & victory in the PLO $50 Re-Buys for $10,094.
This is just on Stars: his form on Full Tilt is arguably even better, where he has broken the $1million mark in prize money in just under 2 years on the site. His most significant score came by taking down the legendary $1k Monday for $82,750 back in April and since then he has been almost unstoppable. To put his form into perspective, he has had no fewer than 19 FIVE figure scores on FT since January:19! Top of the list include final tables in the $750k GTD (5th, $36,592), the Sunday Brawl (4th, $23,344), the Sunday Mulligan (4th, $15,230), and two FTOPS Events for $26,000 combined (one of which was a H.O.R.S.E event!) He has also had 11 outright victories in $100 Re-Buys & all of their Guarantee events ranging from the $33k GTD to the $65k GTD.
PartyPoker doesn’t escape his wrath, either, with two wins and a second in their High Roller $30k GTD event for over $47,000 as well as a 1st & 2nd in the $50k GTD for a further $23,000. He has also had several scores in Titan & Poker Room’s flagship events which we won’t list here. But totalling up his prizes on Stars, FT & Party and you get to comfortably over $2million: there are only a handful of players in the world who can claim to have passed that mark in their online careers.
Given his unbelievable consistency online it is surprising that he hasn’t broken through in a live tournament to date, with just two minor cashes in the WSOP and a 17th in the GUKPT Luton to show for his troubles. He was also making a decent run at the WSOPE Main Event but managed to bubble the money after building up a decent stack on Day 1.
PV would like to congratulate Chris on his vintage year: he is among the elite of online tournament poker (with the likes of Alex Kamberis & Shaun Deeb) and we would not be surprised to see him take down that elusive Sunday major by the end of the year.
