Player Update: Andy McLEOD
By Simon Hopper
17th October 2008
His outstanding achievement of the year is winning no just one, but TWO online bracelets in the space of just 2 months
The Australian phenomenom has credentials for online player of the year after a stunning run in tournament season....
A lot has happened to ‘Andy McLEOD’ since PV profiled the Australian phenomenon last year.
Real name James Obst, he was banned by most online sites in 2007 for being underage but made a triumphant return by final tabling the Sunday Million and has gone onto even further heights in 2008.
Just last week he final tabled the PokerStars $200 re-buys (8th, $6,250) and in August again final tabled the Sunday Million (4th, $75,879) before taking down a $5,000 winner takes all tournament for a cool $80,000.
But his outstanding achievement of the year is winning no just one, but TWO online bracelets in the space of just 2 months. August saw him win the FTOPS $300 Razz for $40,142 (where he plays as ‘TheFatFISH’), a discipline of the game normally lost on players of his age. And in September he topped it all by taking down WCOOP Event #16 ($200 PLO) for a mammoth $98,280 and besting a final table that included the likes of Isaac Baron, Chris Moneymaker & Chris Moorman.
These achievements alone would put him in strong contention for online player of the year, but with several months of poker still to be played in 2008 we wouldn’t rule out more major tournament scores by surely the best online Australasian player of all-time.
