Player Focus: Bdbeatslayer

Every discussion of leading female players on the internet focuses on one name: Annette_15. But while Norwegian teenage phenomenon Annette Obrestad is undoubtedly a pioneering force in the online women's game she's not the only female who's pulling down big prizes at a precocious age.

Step forward "Bdbeatslayer", aka "four6suited" and "magikstick8". The 21-year-old, also known as Dana, took up poker only last year but has quickly earned a reputation as one of the fastest-rising stars online following some fantastic performances in major MTTs over the past eight or nine months.

As she told www.pocketfives.com: "I started out with sit 'n gos online, then MTTs on PartyPoker, but I wasn't especially successful. I got my real start when PartyPoker shut down for US customers. I started with a $400 loan on Full Tilt - I had no way to deposit - and have built up my bankroll since then."

She certainly has. Playing as Bdbeatslayer on PokerStars she has won $280,740 in six months, including winning a $200 buy-in for just under $50k and three $100 buy-ins. She's added more than 50k on PartyPoker and $118k on Full Tilt. Her winnings are a result of high-volume play and consistent success in a number of different MTTs.

Like so many other players who are new to the game, however, Bdbeatslayer does not appear motivated by money. Indeed, she's probably as surprised as anybody else about the speed and level of her success.

"Poker is about self-discipline, and being the best you can and having the ability to recover from bad situations," she told www.pocketfives.com. "It's about having a complete disregard for money, yet having superior bankroll management. Sometimes poker is a complete contradiction: even when you do everything right, you still lose. Poker, it's better than real life."

Annette_15 may be the most famous female playing online - but all the signs are that Bdbeatslayer could give her a run for her money.
