The Weekend Report
By Philip Tuck
Tom Dwan continues his run of form as the big hold'em game continues to give us action
The Cash Games.
After last weeks incredible record breaking action (check here if you did not read about one of the most stunning weekends of online poker in history), lots of pressure was on this weekend to live up to expectations. Alas, this week the action definitely slowed down a little (probably due to the EPT and the Caesars Classic taking up many of the pro’s time), although we still had some great action.
Some new players have started taking shots at the $500/$1,000 No Limit Hold’em game recently, and Isaac Haxton has been amongst them - here he is winning a pot worth just over one hundred thousand dollars.
From here on in the action started to heat up as most of the regulars sat down and began buying in deep and trading some big blows. Patrick Antonius managed to run up a couple of big stacks, but lost a big one here as he tried to make a sick call against ‘Urindanger’, only to see he had been rivered - here.
Lars Luzak (who was a major catalyst in last weeks action) soon sat down and began playing the style which has made him renowned as one of the most dangerous players in the world. Making a river check raise like this (and especially for the amount of money involved) is one of the most advanced plays in hold’em, and whether he was bluffing or had it this time (I have seen Lars make this play as a bluff on numerous occasions if you can believe it), it is a truly great move - here.
After this pot it was time to start playing some big ones, with Tom ‘durrr’ Dwan in the thick of it as usual. Here he is getting it all in on the flop and turning the nuts against John Juanda. And here he rubs a bit of salt in the wound by making a great value bet into Juanda with the nut full house. Juanda seemed somewhat tilted after this hand, commenting ‘Nice bet’ before sitting out pretty quickly.
The final big hand of the day went to Tom Dwan as well, with his top set able to hold in this monstrous $428,000 pot. All in all another great weekend of poker - although I’m sure we will have to wait a little while to see any more million dollar stacks and $750k pots.
