"Waterloo-based Chorny saw off a high-class final table"
After taking the chip lead into the final table yesterday, Glen Chorny finished the job after 13 hours of solid poker to claim the most prestigious prize the EPT has to offer.
Waterloo-based Chorny saw off a high-class final table that included Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari, who was gunning for a remarkable triple crown of WPT, WSOP and EPT victories.
He departed in 8th place for €168,000. Another star who made it to the final 8 was PokerStars pro Luca Pagano, making his 3rd EPT final table and who made his record 9th EPT cash, departing in 6th for €337,000.
Many experts tip for the title was Isaac 'WestmenloAA' Baron, a legendary online player who has profits of almost $900,000 on PokerStars alone and who cashed in San Remo earlier this month. His aggressive pre-flop action got him to the chip lead at one point, but his AQ ran into Chorny's AA and his dream ended in 4th for €589,000.
It is another monster cash for Chorny who has enjoyed a sick 2008. He came 13th in the EPT Caribbean for $80,000 in January before taking down a WPT PLO event later that month for another $80k. He then cashed in the LA Poker Classic last month before clinching the biggest title of his career last night.
Poker Verdict's Neil Channing just missed the money; with 80 cashing he eventually departed in 83rd place.
Other stars competing included Daniel Negreanu, Freddy Deeb, Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius, Marcel Luske & Sorel Mizzi.
