Poker Video 1 - Stu Ungar
In life he was one of the greatest winners and losers at poker of all time. In death he is simply a legend who won the World Series of Poker main event three times. If you don’t know much about Stuey ‘The Kid’ Ungar this vid will serve as a useful introduction. Stuey had an unquenchable thirst for action and made sure he got it in the shape of cocaine, whores and crazy sports betting. As Stuey himself said: “There ain’t no one who can beat me playing cards. The only one who ever beat me was myself.”
Poker Video 2 - Biggest pot ever in High Stakes Poker
Sammy Farha and Patrik Antonius go to war in this pot, which turned out to be the biggest pot in High Stakes Poker history, at almost $1 million. What makes it interesting is that neither of them have a huge hand: Patrik just has top pair and Sammy is on a draw. Oddly, they decide to run the turn and river cards four times. But, as commentator Gabe Kaplan says, the two “have history”. Well, they have even more history now.
Poker Video 3 - Final hand of The Cincinatti Kid
If you haven’t seen the greatest poker film of all time here’s a taster – it’s the final hand of The Cincinatti Kid, one of Steve McQueen’s best films. The scene is a reminder of how poker used to be played in the good old days: late at night in a smoke-filled room with a few rounders, gangsters and molls hanging around in the background. There is even a character called Lady Fingers which you certainly don’t get on High Stakes Poker! It might be a ludicrous final hand but it’s still worth sitting back and enjoying the action.
Poker Video 4 - Scotty Nguyen bluffs Humberto Brenes
If you want to learn how to bluff there is no finer player from whom to learn than former WSOP main event champ Scotty Nguyen. In this hand he gets Humberto Brenes off a hand with the monster holding of 8-3. Some of Scotty’s comments afterwards are priceless. We especially love the “I thought we were playing blackjack” line.
Poker Video 5 - AA vs KK vs AA
This is a sick hand involving Brett Richey, Beth Shak and Phil Hellmuth at the WSOP who have KK, AA and AA respectively. You will see an astonishingly bad play from Richey who calls the all-ins of Shak and Hellmuth when it must have been obvious at least one of them had the pocket rockets. Especially as Shak hops around saying “I got it” and signals to her husband on the rail that she has Aces.
