I Spent The Night With Annette_15

Warren Wooldridge aka Fresh Fish locked horns with the Norwegian teenager on PokerStars recently...
I am always amazed when high profile online poker players with big tournament wins to their name turn up in relatively low limit tournaments. Kwob20 was seen playing regularly in the nightly $10 rebuy tournament on PokerStars the week after he won the second of two bracelets in the site’s World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP), which together netted him over $75k.
And so it is with Annette 15. I am reliably informed that she is a regular in the $50 rebuy on PokerStars. This is an event I have recently started playing as a substitute for my old $30 rebuy fix on the sadly demised Paradise Poker.

Now we at Poker Verdict like Annette a lot. She is young, female, popular and a real success story. And so it was that on Saturday 24 Feb not only was I playing in the same tournament as her but was sat on her immediate left. She went all-in on the first hand (having rebought before the hand was dealt) with the monster K-10 and was called by two others who had also taken advantage of the early rebuy. She was against J-J and 10-10 and managed to spike a king to more than treble up. Thereafter she seemed to treat it like a freezout and ended the rebuy period with roughly the same amount as she had after hand one. For my part I rebought twice, and added on, and was still behind her in chips.
As soon as the rebuy period was over the first two rounds saw us involved in blind confrontations. Both times she raised three times the big blind. Both times I found a hand and pushed all-in and both times she folded. Great for the image and the table talk. At least a dozen observers were railbirding her and vocalising their support in the chatbox.
Soon after the break our table was broken and we went our separate ways until, with about 60 players left, we were reunited in the same seats at our new table. Our time apart had obviously been kinder to me as I now had about 50,000 to her 15,000. She still played fast and strong and was seldom called when she made a move at a pot. And then she called upon her celebrity luck to get it all in with Q-Q against A-A, and rivered a Queen when she looked down and out. From here she took over the chip lead and the scrolling comments resembled the ticker on Wall Street.
Safely in the money the pivotal hand came down when a late position raiser was re-popped by Annette. Now this to me looked like the ultra-trendy squeeze play that all the kids these days are trying so I thought my A-Q offsuit was good. Sure enough, the initial raiser got out of the way to my all-in ‘move’ and Annette went into the tank. With 30 seconds of her time bank remaining she made a crying call with Q-Q. Oops! I was in bad shape until miracle upon miracle the river delivers salvation in the form of an Ace. What ensued was the highlight of the evening. A cacophony of abuse from the gallery as their hero had been rivered to which Annette added fuel to the flames by saying that she always has the best hand going in. I kept my silence but was delighted that somebody had indeed been watching and reminded her how her previous Q-Q had outrun A-A. All went quiet and it was all I could do from chipping in with ‘You’re not singing any more’!
After a brief recovery I did indeed knock Annette out in 11th place before I lost a 3:1:1 chip lead three-handed upon losing consecutive coin-flips. Nevermind though – my third place finish was worth a cool $5,477 which isn’t at all bad for one night’s work. I think when we meet again she and her army of followers may remember me. I hope the result is the same.
Until next time,
