Amy Trodd's Poker Diary 11/12/2007

Another bad live week for Amy, but spinning up her online bankroll could mean Christmas has come early...

I’ve had yet another bad week, where my live poker experiences seem to be getting worse. It was Saturday night and I found myself at a friend’s birthday drinks and all I could think about was how much I wanted to play the 150 freezeout at Gutshot. I eventually found myself there with just a few minutes to register amongst only 44 runners, which I was happy about as first place seemed a lot more accessible.

The first couple of levels went reasonably well; I managed to win a large pot with against my opponent’s Read more...

Amy tells us about her break from poker, shares her experiences of playing 'celebs' and blames her new toy for being bad at poker....

Sorry for the paucity of diary entries of late, this is due to the lack of poker I have been playing. I took a non-poker related holiday visiting my brother in New York for Thanksgiving. I was keen to try and find the underground poker clubs, which I had imagined to be just like from Rounders with Jon Malkovich meeting me at the door, sadly I did not find these; massive relief to my non poker playing boyfriend and brother. Instead I enjoyed the festivities of the Thanksgiving parade, ice skating on Central Park Ice rink and taking advantage of the Black Friday Christmas sales!

Came back last week and got straight back into it, I was delighted to see $200 sitting in my Poker stars account.  I managed to spin this up to $500 playing the odd SNG and I won a 27-seater SNG. The $500 quickly disappeared after playing a few $100 SNGs after a few too many glasses of red wine on a Sunday evening – not a good idea! I’ve now left the measly $58 to spin up... Read more...

This week, Amy can't find cards at the Gutshot and spends her Sunday night taking on JP Kelly in a GUKPT qualifier...

£50 Cash Game

I made the trip down to the Gutshot on Wednesday night with Poker Verdict’s Javed Ghazi. We were just in time for the £50 cash table opening up, and I sat down with £100. There’s nothing much to report aside from Anthony Tran who likes to play any two cards was raising every couple of hands, and the fact that I wasn’t connecting with any cards.

My stack whittled down rapidly and left me in desperate need to win a pot. I called a limit raise on my BB with Read more...

Amy rounds up her week of big online profits mixed with live disasters and another appearance on Golden Balls...

Welcome to my diary – this weekly episode will briefly touch on what I have been up to in the last week or so, which games I’ve played online and live, and keep you updated with my progress. Sadly, I can’t compete with the likes of well known bloggers and big online stars but if you’re interested in how a 22 year old girl feels doing the rounds on the poker scene in and around London, then read on…

Last weekend was very profitable for me as well as being unusual; I’m not an online player - not since my student days spending my life online losing all my student loan. Last Sunday was different, however, when I managed to spin $100 into over $1,500. This is a very unique situation for me but it was one of those days when you just can't stop hitting cards!

On Tuesday night I headed down to Gutshot in Clerkenwell, now the ‘Powerhouse Sporting Club’. I don’t usually head down to Gutshot on Tuesdays! I sat... Read more...

My Six-Way Chop At The GSOP

By Amy Trodd 27 August 2007

Amy Trodd

When I ended up chopping a tournament at the Gutshot Series of Poker it was the highlight of my poker career...

After a strenuous two weeks looking after my little sister I decided to treat myself to a decent game of cards. After years of being a member of the Gutshot in Clerkenwell, and always wanting to participate in one of their Gutshot Series of Poker (GSOP) events, I thought I would buy myself in to the £200 No Limit Freezeout and try my luck! I even turned down several backers!

I had a terrible first level. With a starting chipstack of 6,000 and blinds at 25–50 I had to fold A-K on a King-high board when the river card brought a third diamond to the board. Always acting first I made him pay all the way but I still think he was fishing for that flush that he hit…! Board showed 8d-Qd-Ks-6c-2d. I only had one pair at the end of the day. This made me a short stack very early on with only 2,000 chips left.

My stack kept getting smaller and I finally moved all in with Q-9 off suit. With two callers and a Queen-high flop I was quickly back in the game!... Read more...
